The museum has no permanent location at this time. Their ultimate goal is to establish a museum site where the SP 4449 "Daylight" steam engine and other important artifacts will be stored and displayed. The 4449 also ran for 3 years as the "American Freedom Train" during the nations bicentennial. The rolling stock and smaller display items are currently either in storage or on loan. The SVRR Engineer for a Day program allows you to actually operate a steam locomotive under the supervision of qualified Sumpter Valley Railway personnel. Participants will learn how to operate a locomotive in the McEwen yards, make up a freight train and take it out onto the main line. As you travel through the forests and gold dredge tailings of the Sumpter Valley, you will be given a glimpse back in time without having to leave the comfort of the present.
